Even the weather cooperated to give Duquesne ideal conditions — 75 degrees and summer — for its 32nd annual community day, including the second-annual community day parade.
Kicking off at 11 a.m. Saturday, the parade proceeded up Grant Street to Polish Hill Community Park. That’s where hundreds gathered to visit vendors, listen to music, eat great food and simply visit with neighbors.
Mayor R. Scott Adams and Councilman Derek Artim greeted residents, saying that there were more people this year than in recent outings.
Other elected leaders, including Council Members Elaine Washington, Denise Brownfield and Aaron Adams were on hand, along with Allegheny County Councilman Bob Macey and State Sen. Nick Pisciottano also took in the parade and festivities.]

Duquesne police Chief Tom Shaw introduced two new police officers to city residents. Officer Seth Solomon joined Duquesne’s police force on July 14 and Officer Joseph Hora started July 18. Solomon was most recently in West Homestead and Hora in Buffalo Township. Duquesne’s police force now includes 14 officers, including Shaw.
Fire Chief Frank Cobb and other members of his department were on hand to talk with neighbors as the afternoon progressed. There were also horses for kids to ride and classic cars for aficionados to look after for the day-long family-friendly function.
