A local man is dead following a shooting Sunday afternoon in White Oak.
Allegheny County homicide detectives and White Oak police were on the scene gathering evidence following the 2:18 p.m. incident at the intersection of Route 48 and Lincoln Way.
Witnesses said the victim, identified by the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office as Kenneth Hayman, 33, was on a motorcycle on Route 48 when a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado approached and two men armed with rifles opened fire.
Shoppers at nearby Rainbow Village Shopping Center and Oak Park Mall described hearing multiple, rapid shots that sounded “like fireworks.”
The vehicle then fled on Lincoln Way, witnesses said.
Allegheny County 9-1-1 described the suspect vehicle as a dark-gray or black Chevrolet Silverado with tinted windows, rain guards and running boards, with a possible license number of HNL-9509. Three to four occupants, possibly wearing face masks, were inside, according to a description broadcast to police.
The suspects were described as armed and dangerous.
Hayman was pronounced dead at AHN Forbes Hospital about an hour after the incident, the medical examiner’s office said.
Police from multiple agencies, including McKeesport, North Huntingdon Twp. and North Versailles Twp., were assisting at the scene on Sunday afternoon. Route 48 was closed for several hours.
Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
