Drug Arrest: An Indiana man is free on $30,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing on drug possession charges.

Abdullah K.I.M. Woods, 25, of Edinburgh, Ind., is charged by McKeesport police with five counts of possession of controlled substances, four counts of possession with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and a moving violation.

Police said an officer on routine patrol on the evening of Aug. 9 in the vicinity of Evans Avenue saw a car with a burned-out license plate light and stopped it. According to a police report, officers smelled the odor of marijuana and asked to search the driver and a passenger.

Police said they found 18 individual bags of suspected cocaine, 48 oxycodone pills, 90 suspected ecstasy tablets, marijuana and a digital scale, as well as $719 in currency. The driver, identified as Woods, was arrested and transported to Allegheny County Jail, police said. Woods was released on bond Sept. 1.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 13 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi.


Charged in Wreck: A city man faces a preliminary hearing Sept. 25 after McKeesport police said he left the scene of an accident on McKinley Street.

Jason J. Dorsey, 41, is charged by McKeesport police with leaving the scene of an accident, careless driving, failing to report an accident, driving with a suspended license, and failing to maintain current emission and inspection stickers.

According to a police report, a tow truck was traveling on McKinley Street on the evening of Aug. 9 when a green SUV came out of an alley and collided with it. The SUV then left the scene, police said. Debris from the vehicle, including a headlight and the front bumper, fell off into the street, police said.

Police tracked the vehicle to a house one street away from the accident and identified the driver as Dorsey. Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi.


Burglary Charges: A North Braddock man is being held in the Allegheny County Jail pending a preliminary hearing on charges that he broke into a Powers Street home and stole $6,500 cash.

Ali Salaam, 18, is charged by McKeesport police with burglary, criminal conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking and endangering the welfare of children. McKeesport police said that a woman called on the evening of June 16 to report that someone had kicked in her back door and stole a safe. Two children were home at the time of the burglary, police said.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 17 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi.

Separately, Salaam is charged by West Mifflin police with aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy, discharing a firearm into an occupied structure, making terroristic threats, carrying a firearm without a license, simple assault and reckless endangerment following an incident that happened Aug. 23 in the borough.

Salaam is being held on $200,000 cash bond in connection with the West Mifflin incident, according to court records. A preliminary hearing on those charges is scheduled for Sept. 14 before Magisterial District Judge Richard Olasz Jr.


Charged in Wreck: A McKeesport man faces a preliminary hearing Oct. 16 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi following a wreck Aug. 28 in the Christy Park section of the city.

McKeesport police said a car driven by Teddy Haas, 31, rear-ended another vehicle in the 2700 block of Walnut Street, then drove around the car that was struck. Haas was found by police a few minutes later and was charged by McKeesport police with driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident.

No injuries were reported to police.


Assault Charged: A McKeesport man is charged by city police with simple assault and theft by unlawful taking in connection with an Aug. 16 incident on Evans Avenue. Darrell E. Palmer, 31, faces a preliminary hearing Oct. 16 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi.

According to a police report, a man was walking north on Evans just before 9 p.m. when he was accosted by another man, walking south. Police said the man pushed the victim to the ground, injuring his left eye and his wrist, and then took $157 cash. Palmer was charged in connection with the incident on Aug. 29.


Assault Charge: Gerald A. Brooks, 29, of Wilkinsburg was charged by McKeesport police with aggravated assault, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct following an incident at 1:46 a.m. Aug. 26 at a business in the 600 block of O'Neil Boulevard. Brooks faces a preliminary hearing Sept. 18 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi.


Burglary Charges: Two juveniles were charged by McKeesport police with burglary, criminal mischief, intimidation of a witness, disorderly conduct and harassment following an incident in the 900 block of Belleview Street. The youths are males aged 15 and 16, police said, and were referred to Allegheny County juvenile authorities.


Drug Charge: Finalgene Sloan, 55, of McKeesport was charged by McKeesport police with possession of a controlled substance on Aug. 11. Sloan faces a preliminary hearing Oct. 2 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi.


DUI Charges: Yuksel Muammer, 36, of Ross Twp. was charged by McKeesport police with driving under the influence and careless driving following a traffic stop on the morning of Aug. 12 in the 700 block of Washington Avenue in Dravosburg. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 19 before Magisterial District Judge Richard D. Olasz Jr.

Norman Woods Jr., 32, of Penn Hills was charged by McKeesport police with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at 4:15 a.m. Aug. 27 in the 2300 block of East Fifth Avenue. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 16 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi.

Oliver Neal II, 30, of Rankin was charged by McKeesport police with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at 9:25 p.m. Aug. 14 near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Walnut Street. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 2 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi.


Drug, Loitering Charges: Bethany D. Carpenter, 22, of McKeesport was charged by McKeesport police with possession of drug paraphernalia, loitering for the purposes of prostitution, and prostitution following an incident at 2:40 p.m. Aug. 10 in the 600 block of White Street. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 2 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi.
