Twenty new restaurants and food stores opened in Allegheny County in March and April, including several in the Mon-Yough area, said a spokeswoman for the Allegheny County Health Department.

New restaurants in the Mon Valley include Aunt Ton's City Flavors, 448 St. Clair Ave., Clairton; South Park Grille, 1 East Park Drive, South Park; and Pasquale’s Pizzeria, 101 Westinghouse Ave., Wilmerding.

The total countywide was 14 restaurants, a bakery, one mobile vendor, a retailer, one grocery store, a cigar bar, and one caterer, the Health Department said.

As part of a step toward promoting individual wellness, the Health Department also looks at and highlights those facilities that use trans fat-free cooking oils. Seven of the fourteen eateries that opened cook with cooking oils that are trans-fat free, said Dr. Karen Hacker, director of the Health Department.

They are CK 9th Street Cafe, South Side, Pittsburgh; Smoq Pitt, Brookline, Pittsburgh; Bob's Diner, Castle Shannon; Double Down Saloon, Carrick, Pittsburgh; Villa Italian Kitchen, Findlay Twp.; Tako Restaurant, Downtown Pittsburgh; and Market Street Grocery, Downtown Pittsburgh.
