A student at Pittsburgh's Creative and Performing Arts high school is winner of the 2015 Congressional High School Arts Competition for the Pennsylvania's 14th Congressional District.

Andrew Lowery received first place for his self-portrait in graphite. His work will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year and was selected out of a field of 63 entries from 15 schools in the district.

Two students from Woodland Hills High School also were honored with ribbons. Miranda Miller received third place for her acrylic on board painting entitled "Corner of Hanover and Church" (shown above), while her classmate Faiza Amir was awarded fourth place for her acrylic painting on canvas entitled "Flat Out Majestic" (below).

Honorable mentions were awarded to nine students, including two from the Mon-Yough area: Isis Duncan of Woodland Hills High School and Shannon Nelis of East Allegheny High School.

"The effort and dedication that these students put into their work is clear, and their artistic talents are quite evident in the artwork they submitted," said U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle of Forest Hills. "They all should be very proud of their creativity and ability."

The winners were announced and all of the participants were recognized at an awards ceremony held at the University of Pittsburgh’s William Pitt Union building Wednesday night.

This was the 20th year in a row that Rep. Doyle has hosted this event. All public and private high school students within the 14th Congressional District are eligible to participate in this competition.
