A North Versailles Twp. homeowner shot at intruders attempting to break into their home, Allegheny County police said Monday.

County police Lt. Richard Mullen said in a prepared statement that several people attempted to force open the door of a house in the 300 block of Foster Road at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

The homeowner, whose name was not released by police, opened fire.

The occupants of the house were not harmed, and the suspects fled the scene and were not identified, Mullen said.

The suspects were not killed, despite erroneous reports circulating on social media, a county spokeswoman said.

A message left for North Versailles Twp. police had not yet been returned when this story was filed, and no further information was available.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Allegheny County police at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (255-8477).
