Port Authority police are investigating a collision between a car and a bus traveling from North Versailles Twp. to Glassport and West Mifflin, but no charges have been filed.

The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Friday on Lysle Boulevard near the McKeesport Transportation Center. The bus on the 55-Glassport route had stopped in the westbound curb lane to pick up and drop off passengers when it was struck from behind by a sport utility vehicle.

Five people on board the bus sustained minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals --- two to UPMC Mercy and three to UPMC McKeesport, said Adam Brandolph, Port Authority spokesman.

The driver of the SUV also was taken to an area hospital. Brandolph said the agency is not releasing the driver's name pending the results of the Port Authority police investigation.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, Brandolph said. WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh reported that the driver may have "blacked out."

The SUV was towed from the scene, while the bus has been removed from service pending further inspection, Brandolph said.
