W.O. Announces Upcoming Easter Egg Hunt, Cleanup Day

Around 200 local children are expected to attend White Oak’s annual Easter celebration.

Youth will be split up according to age for the Easter egg hunt, slated for 10 a.m. March 31 at the pavilion at Heritage Hill Park. Goody bags with vouchers for Texas Road House children’s meals will be gifted to all who participate.

In other borough news, Councilman Lou Bender reported at this week's meeting that a borough cleanup day has been scheduled for 10 a.m. April 28. Volunteers who wish to participate should report to Heritage Hill Park at 9:30 a.m.

A rabies clinic in partnership with White Oak Animal Safe Haven is scheduled for 12 noon to 3 p.m. May 19 at the Public Works garage at the municipal building on Lincoln Way. Resident rate is $5 and proof of residency is required. Non-resident rate is $10.

In other business:

The deadline for the discount period for 2018 rubbish bills will end March 31. The amount due to be paid in full is $192. If not paid by the March 31 deadline, the bill will increase to $204.

Councilman Ken Robb reported a committee has been discussing preparations for the 2018 pool season with the pool management team. A new diving board is expected to be included in this year’s improvements to the pool, he said. Council received a request by the White Oak swim team board requesting permission to place a storage shed on the pool grounds and to sell and hang fundraising banners on the fence of the complex.

White Oak Athletic Association board will host its board meeting at 8 p.m. March 27. On the agenda will be the possible re-establishment of the White Oak Youth Football Team.

The next White Oak Recreation Board youth dance is slated for April 20 at Francis McClure Intermediate School.

Mayor Ina Marton gave the police report for the month of February. Police logged 57 traffic violations and 10 adult arrests, including two assaults, two drug offences, two DUIs, one for harassment, two disorderly conduct citations and one for theft.

City Engineer Ken Hillman addressed drainage issues on Main Street, stating they occurred after utility companies dug up the street and patched it. He recommended a small paving notch be milled through the street by the Public Works Department until the root of the problem can addressed.
