TW: Rape, child abuse

A Maple Street man is being held without bail in the Allegheny County Jail pending a preliminary hearing on rape and sexual assault charges. Police said the victim was his own daughter.

A preliminary hearing for the 38-year-old suspect is scheduled for Dec. 17 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi in McKeesport.

McKeesport police said the alleged incident happened three years ago in Maryland. The victim, who is now 16, became pregnant following the assault, police said.

The victim's mother learned of the suspected assault only recently, McKeesport police said, and she does not speak English well.

An arrest warrant was issued July 25 and the suspect was taken into custody Oct. 31, according to court officials.

The suspect is charged with rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, incest, corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of children and indecent assault. Bail for the suspect was denied following arraignment Nov. 1 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Ricciardi in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.

Tube City Almanac does not identify suspects charged with rape if doing so would identify the victim.
