A McKeesport woman who was arrested last year after police said she struck a man with her car has now been charged with homicide in connection with his death.

Jakiia A. Williams, 33, was arrested Tuesday and is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond pending a preliminary hearing April 5 before Allegheny County Judge Kim Berkeley Clark.

The victim, Leslie Robertson, 72, died March 15 at a hospital in Shadyside of multiple traumatic injuries sustained in the accident, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office determined. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Robertson's funeral was March 21 at Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Allegheny County police said that early on the morning of July 26, 2018, Williams was having an argument with someone at the Harrison Village housing complex when she got into her car and attempted to run the other person over.

Police allege that Williams did not strike the person she was arguing with, but instead hit Robertson, who was a bystander.

McKeesport police were on routine patrol in the area, heard gunshots and responded to the scene, according to a police report. They found a white Chevrolet sedan fleeing the area and stopped it, police said. The driver was identified by police as Williams.

Police believe the gunshots were fired by someone who was aiming at Williams' car, but no ballistic evidence was found at the scene, county police Lt. Ken Ruckel said in a prepared statement.

Williams was arrested and is awaiting trial on charges of aggravated assault, attempted homicide, driving under the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving when intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.

A trial scheduled for March 18 before Administrative Judge Jill E. Rangos on those charges was continued until June 26, court records indicate.
