Terri from Danville, Calif., writes:
I am trying to get information about Thomas Riggs Drugstore. My great-grandfather was Thomas Alvin Riggs. My dad told me he lost the store during the Depression and was later the bookkeeper. Do you have any information concerning the store or my great grandfather? I am going to a family reunion in March and I want to give my dad, Robert L. Riggs, our family history that I have traced back to England.
I would love to hear some stories. Many generations of the Riggs family have been born in McKeesport.

Rod recently stumbled upon our article about McKeesport car dealers. He writes:
I discovered your website today! I had a thought about Eger Motors and wondered what ever happened to Eddie, Joe, and Buzz and many of the others that worked there?
I remember Eger Motors fairly well. My Dad worked as a "Red Coat" for many years.
I worked there washing cars, and in the new car department and in their Used Car Lot as well (1959-1962). I did many of the odd chores such as shoveling snow, helping the janitor sweep up, etc.
I also worked at Eddie Eger’s home on occasion and I remember installing Christmas lights on his home.
I joined the Marines in 1962 and departed the area. In 1967, I returned and went to work for Potter-McCune Company (POMCO) and was a manager in their cash and carry food store in McKeesport.
I worked in some of their other stores as well. I decided I needed to move on and joined the Air Force about seven months later never to return to the east coast.
We lived in Port Vue ... and I graduated from Glassport High School.

I just read the story about Eastland Mall. I thought it was sad.
I was a teenager and worked at Penney's. I loved it and thought it was a beautiful place when I was young. When I came back from California, I thought Eastland was a disgrace to (North Versailles) Twp.
I believe politics had a lot to with it becoming a desolate piece of land. I really enjoyed it when I was young. Maybe one day someone will consider it again and invest in something that would enhance the township. I hope!
