Volunteers from across McKeesport will participate Saturday in the fifth-annual "Respect Our City, Respect Our Earth" cleanup day.

Individuals and neighborhood groups will be participating to clear trash and other debris from streets, sidewalks and vacant lots, in the event sponsored by the Great American Cleanup and McKeesport Mayor Mike Cherepko.

The event begins at 10 a.m. at various locations in the city and continues until 2 p.m. Bags, gloves and safety vests will be provided for volunteers, a spokesperson said, and lunch will be served to any neighborhood groups that registered in advance.

For more information, visit the city's website.

The Carnegie Library of McKeesport also is holding a cleanup day beginning at 10 a.m., a library spokeswoman said. Volunteers should dress warmly and meet in the children's room of the library.

Lunch will be provided at 12 noon and a craft activity will follow the cleanup of the library grounds.
