A Pittsburgh man has died after being stabbed Wednesday afternoon on Evans Avenue.

Irvin Green, 48, was pronounced dead just after 6 p.m. at a hospital emergency room, said a spokesperson for the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.

In a prepared statement, Allegheny County police Sgt. Venerando Costa said McKeesport police and paramedics were dispatched at 5:39 p.m. to the 1200 block of Evans Avenue for a report of a stabbing.

When police arrived, they found the victim, later identified as Green, with a single stab wound to the torso.

County homicide detectives responded to the scene and in the course of the investigation, determined that Green was involved in a fight with another man when he was stabbed, Costa said.

Police are still trying to identify a suspect, Costa said.

Public records list addresses for Green in Pittsburgh's Oakland area, as well as in Clairton and Penn Hills.

Anyone with information is asked to call Allegheny County police's tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers may remain anonymous. County police also may be reached via Twitter and Facebook.
