The Emergency Rental Assistance Program is now accepting applications for utilities assistance online at https://covidrentrelief.alleghenycounty.us, a spokesperson for the Allegheny County Department of Human Services said.

The program provides people who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 with help paying their bills for electricity, gas or fuel oil, sewerage, trash removal and water.

Applicants will need to provide the name of the utility company, the name on the account, the account number and the months for which they are requesting assistance, the spokesperson said.

Utilities will be paid through the Dollar Energy Fund.

Eligibility for both rent and utilities relief is being determined by ACTION-Housing. For assistance with the online-only application, call ACTION-Housing at (412) 248-0021, or visit their drop-in center at the Wander Building, 337 Fifth Ave., Downtown McKeesport.

A county spokesperson said people who have already submitted rent relief applications were notified during the process of the impending availability of utilities assistance.

Applicants can now log back into their account and complete the utilities portion of the application if assistance is needed.

More information about the program, including the application, eligibility guidelines, a list of necessary documents, drop-in center locations and other detail, can be found online.
