A McKeesport man is being held in the Allegheny County Jail in connection with a fire in Christy Park that police said was deliberately set.

Jesse Henderson, 23, is jailed in lieu of $25,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing May 10 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi. He was arrested Tuesday.

Police said McKeesport firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 2200 block of Walnut Street on the afternoon of April 19 for a reported structure fire.

According to reports, a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the area around the home and called 9-1-1 as he attempted to extinguish the blaze.

McKeesport police said two residents were home at the time of the fire but were not injured.

Witnesses told police that they observed a man wearing a camouflage sweatshirt and blue sweatpants carrying a red can of gasoline. One of the witnesses observed the man ignite a fire next to the house, according to reports.

Police identified the man as Henderson. Officers recovered the gasoline can at the address next door, according to reports.

The Allegheny County fire marshal’s office investigated the blaze, McKeesport police said. Henderson is charged with arson and two counts of recklessly endangering other persons, according to court records.
