Allegheny County police are releasing few details in connection with a death Friday afternoon at a home on Grover Street in the city.

The victim, Stephen Rucinski, 41, of McKeesport was reportedly mauled by a dog, but county police had not confirmed that information as of Saturday morning.

McKeesport police and animal control officers searched the neighborhood on Friday evening for a black and brown pit bull, which was located about an hour after the incident. The extent of Rucinski’s injuries was not publicly released and it was not clear to whom the dog belonged.

City police Chief Adam Alfer said the investigation is being handled by Allegheny County homicide detectives.

Emergency personnel said police and McKeesport Ambulance Rescue Service were dispatched to a home in the 2900 block of Grover Street at approximately 4:40 p.m. when a family member found Rucinski inside the house, with apparent wounds.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, said the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

* Earlier reports that the house was the sight of a home invasion and robbery on Jan. 19 were incorrect. That incident occurred two doors away, according to a police report reviewed by Tube City Almanac on Saturday.

However, the owner of the home where Friday’s incident occurred was the victim of the Jan. 19 incident.

In a brief statement, county homicide detectives said Friday night that no further information on Rucinski’s death was being released.

County police said the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
