A city man is charged with criminal homicide after Allegheny County police said he followed his ex-girlfriend and shot at her car, which crashed into a building on Walnut Street in Versailles.

A passenger in the car, Ibrahim Diallo, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said.

Although the cause and manner of death have not yet been released, police said Diallo was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The suspected shooter, Tyrique Simmons, 21, of McKeesport is being held in the Allegheny County Jail pending formal arraignment.

McKeesport police responded to a ShotSpotter alert just after 12:30 a.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Union Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered spent shell casings in the roadway.

Approximately five minutes later, police said, Allegheny County 9-1-1 received a report that a car had crashed into a business at the intersection of Walnut Street and Larch Street in Versailles, about three miles away from the Union Avenue shooting call.

Versailles police and McKeesport Ambulance Rescue Service paramedics responded to the scene and found the victim, later identified as Diallo. The 19-year-old woman driving the car was not injured, police said.

A short time later, police said, a man called 9-1-1 to report that he was in the parking lot of the White Oak police station. Police said that the man told the emergency services operator he had committed a homicide in Versailles. Simmons was taken into custody, police said.

Investigators believe that Simmons had been stalking his ex-girlfriend, who worked at a restaurant in White Oak.

Police allege that as the woman drove three other employees home, Simmons followed in his own car, and began shooting at them on Union Avenue, then pursued his ex-girlfriend and Diallo until the crash in Versailles.

Simmons is charged by Allegheny County police with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, stalking and recklessly endangering another person.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
