West Newton Public Library will hold its summer reading program from 10 to 11 a.m. June 15, 22 and 29 at the Lions Field Pavilion, 511 Pittsburgh St., a spokesperson said.

Each day there will be a snack, guest reader and a craft, rain or shine. The event is being coordinated by Lori Luppold. Parents or guardians must accompany smaller children.

Participants must register at WNPL by calling (724) 633-0798 or emailing westnewton@wlnonline.org.

In other news, the library will hold a “fill-a-bag for $5” book sale on June 11 and is currently seeking donations of good condition used paperbacks, hardcovers, DVDs and CDs. Donations may be dropped off at the library, 124 N. Water St., from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, 12 noon to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Please, no cookbooks, encyclopedias or textbooks.

The West Newton library relies on donations and fundraisers to keep the doors open, a spokesperson said.

The June 11 sale also will feature jewelry left over from the library’s fall sale at 75 percent off list prices, along with refreshments. In addition, the West Newton Lions Club will be selling brooms and garbage bags to support its activities.

The fill-a-bag sale is being held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in conjunction with the borough’s town-wide yard sales and dealers also will be set up in Vine Street Park.

The library is affiliated with the Westmoreland Library Network and can request any item available through inter-library loan. Library cards are free with identification, the spokesperson added.
