High school and college students seeking work experience are encouraged to apply; we are willing to work with students who need credit toward class assignments. West Newton Borough has posted upcoming events for June and beyond:
Vacation Bible School Scheduled
First Church of God, 157 N. Second St., will hold Vacation Bible School entitled “Food Truck Party” from June 12 to 16. Ages 3 through adult. Please register to attend by telephoning (724) 872-7467. All are welcome to attend Sunday morning worship at 10:30 a.m., including junior church for youth. The worship service is live streamed on Facebook each week.
Swimming Pool Celebrates 50th Anniversary
West Newton Swimming Pool is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The pool fundraising committee will be holding a stuffed pork chop dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. June 25, take out only, at Gary’s Chuck Wagon Restaurant, South Second Street. Tickets can be purchased at the restaurant or from any pool board member. Anyone interested in the daily fees and yearly pass, please telephone (724) 872-9222.
New Books at WN Library
West Newton Library, 124 N. Water St., has just acquired 20 new hardcover novels for lending and also stocked its back room with gently used items available for purchase. Hours are 12 noon to 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, 12 noon to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Stop in and apply for your free library card with identification; cards can be used at any Westmoreland County Library.
The library is encouraging memorial book purchases to honor or memoralize a loved one. Price is a $25 donation. The library will have a jewelry and book sale in the parking lot from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 11. For more information, call (724) 633-0798. Jewelry will be 75 percent off marked prices, and books will be priced at “fill a bag” for $5.
