McKeesport has partnered with Kansas-based technology company CivicPlus to develop a smartphone app for city residents and other interested parties.
“McKeesport Mobile” is available as a free download from the Google Play store and the Apple App store.
The app was unveiled at this month’s city council meeting.
“We have been keeping in touch with our residents regarding events, announcements and newsworthy items on social media via Facebook,” Mayor Michael Cherepko said. “While we have more than 5,000 followers on that platform, we needed an easy way to communicate with residents who don’t have Facebook accounts.”
The McKeesport Mobile app includes a calendar of events and meetings, links to city council agendas, and a “news flash” section that includes time-sensitive information.
City officials said the app is integrated with McKeesport’s website at www.mckeesport-pa.gov and will include automatic updates from that platform.
"We were pleased to work with the City of McKeesport on the launch of its new mobile app,” said Jessica Marabella, CivicPlus’s director of content and communications. “We worked with the mayor’s office to build an app using our CivicPlus Mobile solution. It’s the next evolution of the mobile experience for local governments and their residents.”
CivicPlus has developed similar apps for medium-sized municipalities throughout the United States, including Dothan, Ala.; Middletown, N.J.; Windsor, Calif.; Plant City, Fla.; Worthington, Ohio; Jupiter, Fla.; and Lisbon, Wis.
Founded in 2017, the company designs, develop and manages community engagement systems for municipalities and public organizations. Other services include content management systems, website consulting, website design, training and customer support services, according to a CivicPlus spokesperson.
Cherepko said the new McKeesport Mobile app will be a tool that will continue to grow and evolve to meet the needs of the McKeesport community.
“As technology progresses, will continue to improve our app to suit our community’s needs,” Cherepko said.
