North Versailles Twp. will take over the former Park Terrace School property from East Allegheny School District.

At this month’s meeting, the commissioners unanimously accepted the donation of the lot. Township officials said the plans are to use the property for recreational purposes.

Located at 224 James St., Park Terrace School was dedicated to seventh and eighth grades between 1968 and 1982. The facility closed before the 1982-83 school year and both grades were consolidated at the junior-senior high school. The building was eventually torn down, leaving a vacant lot owned by the school district.

Commissioner Tracy Yusko, who heads the Parks & Recreation Committee, will oversee development of plans for the property, township officials said.

In other business:

Commissioners approved a policy requiring township police to use body-worn cameras as part of their uniforms. In addition, the township will require mobile video recorders to be installed in township police cars.

Township officials said the devices are meant to improve the safety and interactions between the officers and the public, provide a record of events and help overall performance.

There was debate over approving the payment of $549,244.15 to El Grande Industries for their work paving the streets around the township. Commissioner Russell Saula asked whether El Grande may still need to complete the paving jobs, specifically not completing the final sealing of the roads. The motion carried 6-0-1, with Saula abstaining.

A tentative budget for the general fund has been placed on the NVT website and is available for review. A motion to pass the budget will be voted on at December’s meeting.

A motion was passed to approve lease agreements for Parks & Recreation facilities and the Community Center.

Commissioners unanimously approved a new contract with employees represented by Local 95 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

Commissioners authorized payment of $31,528.80 to Raywall Contracting for renovations to the Crestas Volunteer Fire Co. hall. There have been two previous payments for work already completed.

Fire Department of North Versailles was reimbursed $12,000 for fuel for its ambulances.

A payment of $12,213.92 to Crestas fire company for monthly bills and new steel doors was approved.

The next township commissioners meeting will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 at the municipal building.
