August is an especially busy month for the Carnegie Library of McKeesport and its branches, when community events in the city, White Oak and Duquesne highlight an already full programming lineup.

Director Vincent D'Alesio said the main event at the library itselt will be the wrap-up party for the annual Summer Reading Program. That party begins at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 9 for everyone who participated, he said. Participants will enjoy food, entertainment from a juggler and a stilt-walker, and a airbrush tattoo artist. Raffle prizes also will be awarded, D'Alesio said. Registration by Aug. 7 is required by calling (412) 672-0625.

The library’s annual book sale will held this year at White Oak Community Day at Heritage Hills Park on Saturday (Aug. 5). The lower floor of the White Oak branch library will be open for book shoppers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., D'Alesio said.

The same day, the library also will have a presence at Duquesne Community Day, “so be on the lookout for us there too,” he said.

The library also will be present at International Village for Kids on Aug. 14 and McKeesport International Village from Aug. 15 to 17. “Our booth is over by the bluetop pavilion, so stop in to learn more about what the library has to offer,” D’Alesio said.

In other Carnegie Library of McKeesport news, PA CareerLink will also be hosting on-site consultations at the library starting in August, and the Valentino Vasquez Jazz Ensemble will perform at the library on Aug. 27th.

Classic films and documentaries to be screened this month include “Grizzly Man” (Aug. 4), “Lolita” (Aug. 11), “What the Health” (Aug. 18), and “The Grass Harp.” Film screenings begin at 11 a.m.

On Aug. 10, Dr. Debbie Tan of the UPMC McKeesport Latterman Clinic will present a discussion entitled “Sleep for Your Health,” explaining the effect that good sleep habits have on overall wellness. The talk begins at 1 p.m. and registration in advance is suggested.

“This is just a taste of all there is to enjoy from the Carnegie Library of McKeesport coming up in August,” he said. “We hope to see you at the library, everyone.”
