A 16-year-old from Clairton faces multiple charges after McKeesport police said he led them on a brief chase with a stolen car that ended when he tried to ram another car out of his way.

The teen-ager is charged by McKeesport police with aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude police, carrying a firearm without a license, recklessly endangering other persons, obstruction of law enforcement, possession of instruments of crime, carrying a prohibited offensive weapon, reckless driving and driving without a license.

McKeesport police said the driver was remanded to the custody of Allegheny County juvenile authorities following his arrest.

Police said the incident began just after 1 p.m. Aug. 13 when a McKeesport police officer on routine patrol in the city's East End observed a car traveling at a high rate of speed near Cliff Street. The officer followed, police said, and checked the vehicle's license plate, only to learn that it had been reported stolen from Jefferson Hills.

When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled toward the McKeesport-Duquesne Bridge but had to stop behind another vehicle on Bowman Avenue. Police allege that the driver then tried to push that car off the road with the car he was driving.

According to an incident report, McKeesport police Lt. Bob Eastman was arriving in another patrol car and observed the suspect's car ramming the other vehicle. Police said Eastman, concerned for the safety of the other driver, blocked the suspect's car with his patrol car, which sustained minor damage in the process.

The victim was not injured and declined medical attention, police said. Her car had damage to the passenger side rear and bumper, police said.

White Oak police also responded and assisted McKeesport police in arresting the driver and detaining two passengers in the stolen car, according to the report. Police recovered a .40-caliber pistol from the stolen car and also found a small bag of suspected marijuana in a purse in the back seat that belonged to a 16-year-old female passenger.

Police said the female passenger, from McKeesport, will be charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The other passenger in the car was wanted by juvenile authorities for a probation violation, according to the report.
