The Allegheny County Department of Public Works will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. June 6 to discuss the upcoming replacement of the Patton Street Bridge in Wilmerding, a spokesperson said.

The hearing will be held online using the Microsoft Teams video conference app. Registration in advance is required by going to Allegheny County’s website. A link and phone number to attend the meeting will be emailed to those who register.

The Patton Street bridge links the north and south sides of Wilmerding over Turtle Creek and also provides a transportation link between North Versailles Twp. and Monroeville.

When the Patton Street Bridge was last inspected in April 2022, its deck and substructure received ratings of five, a county spokesperson said. Bridges with a rating of four and below are considered to be in poor condition. If left to deteriorate further, the bridge would soon move into poor condition and possibly become unsafe for the traveling public, the county said.

The work will require a one-year closure of the bridge — likely between 2027 and 2028.

The rehabilitation project and detours will primarily impact Wall, Wilmerding and North Versailles.

The purpose of the June 6 meeting is to present the preliminary construction and traffic control plans as well as to obtain public input prior to completion of the project’s final design. Representatives from Allegheny County and its design consultant, Mackin Engineering, will be answering questions and addressing concerns about the project.

Residents who do not have internet access;  have a limited ability to read, write, speak or understand English; or require other special assistance to learn about the project should contact Brent Wasko at (412) 350-2451 or brent.wasko@alleghenycounty.us.

A recording of the meeting will be posted online at the conclusion of the presentation, the county said.
