The “Hometown Hoops” program will return to area parks and playgrounds — including Wilmerding and McKeesport — this summer.

The Allegheny County Parks Department has announced the return Hometown Hoops Mini-Camp for ages 9 to 18, beginning June 24 and continuing through Aug. 9 in 10 communities.

The 29 basketball mini-camps are free and take place 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, at the designated locations. A free box lunch will be provided at 12 noon each day by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Participants may attend as many mini-camps as they like. Proper basketball attire is required.

“These mini-camps offer a wonderful opportunity for our youth to engage in healthy, fun activities while learning skills,” County Executive Sara Innamorato said in a prepared statement. “I am especially grateful for the partnerships with our county parks department, county police, UPMC, and the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, which will help us make these camps even more impactful.”

Hometown Hoops will come to the Wilmerding Community Center on June 27 and 28 and Renziehausen Park in McKeesport on Aug. 5, 6 and 7.

Pre-registration is recommended to guarantee that every child receives a lunch. Parents or guardians may register participants online or by calling (412) 350-2455 at least 24 hours in advance of the mini-camp their children plan to attend. In case of inclement weather, call (412) 350-2455 to confirm if a mini-camp is taking place.

Other locations include Prospect Terrace, Forest Hills; Groveton Village, Coraopolis; Future Focus Childcare, Penn Hills; Pleasant Ridge, McKees Rocks; Avalon Park, Avalon; Mapleview Terrace, Braddock; Linhart Park, Wilkins Twp.; Riverbank Park, Verona; and Meyers Ridge, McKees Rocks.
