A parent involved in the McKeesport Area High School Tiger Band’s booster program has been charged after more than $18,000 was reported missing from the volunteer group’s accounts.
Jennifer L. Martino, 49, of White Oak is charged by the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office with theft by unlawful taking, access device fraud and misapplication of entrusted property.
Martino was charged Monday. She is currently free on her own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing Dec. 9 before Magisterial District Judge Thomas Miller Jr.
According to a criminal complaint, Martino served as treasurer for the Tiger Band Boosters from April 2023 to September 2024, and collected funds — including cash from concession sales — made bank deposits and paid the organization’s bills.
The complaint states that two new board members took office in May 2024 and asked Martino to provide a full financial accounting of the organization’s books.
The affidavit alleges that despite multiple requests, Martino did not provide financial records, at which point the band booster group’s vice president went to a local bank to obtain copies of the records for herself.
Detectives allege that when the other members of the board reviewed the bank statements, they determined that $18,250.97 was missing. The complaint alleges that the money was used to pay for Martino’s personal expenses, including phone bills, other utility bills, purchases at department stores, meals and lodging.
According to the affidavit, the board removed Martino from her post as treasurer and filed a complaint with White Oak police. Detectives said that all board members are volunteers and that Martino was not entitled to the money to reimburse her for personal expenses.
Martino was arraigned Tuesday at Miller’s office in White Oak, court officials said.
