West Mifflin Council Member Dan Davis has announced his plans to seek the Democratic nomination for Allegheny County Council District 9.
Davis, a graduate of Ohio State University, is an environmental engineer who currently works as a department manager at DLZ Corp. in Bridgeville.
“With eight years of experience as a councilman for West Mifflin Borough and 35 years as an environmental manager, I am confident in my ability to address the concerns of the 17 municipalities within Allegheny County District 9,” Davis said.
Allegheny County Council is a part-time position. District 9 includes Dravosburg, Duquesne, Elizabeth Borough, Elizabeth Twp., Forward Twp., Glassport, Liberty Borough, Lincoln Borough, McKeesport, Munhall, Port Vue, South Versailles Twp., Versailles, West Mifflin, Whitaker and White Oak.
Council Member Bob Macey recently announced his retirement. Macey had represented District 9 since 2006.
“My goal is to advocate for the Mon Valley and southern areas of Allegheny County, focusing on issues such as blight, sluggish economic development, senior care access, healthcare and improved living conditions,” he said.
Davis said that he is “actively involved in the community,” and serves as the current president of the South Hills Area Council of Governments, director of the Allegheny County Boroughs Association, board member of The Congress of Neighboring Communities, president of the Pittsburgh post of the Society of American Military Engineers, and board member of Southwestern Pennsylvania Engineering Outreach.
“My involvement in these organizations has given me a deep understanding of the issues we face,” Davis said. “I believe that listening, investigating and collaborating are key to success, and I am committed to bringing these principles to the county council seat.”
Voters in the Democratic and Republican parties will go to the polls on May 20 to choose their candidates in the general election. The general election is Nov. 4.
