A 43-year-old Hempfield Twp. man died in a fire Thursday morning that closed Route 30 near Adamsburg for several hours.

Timothy P. Shane was found dead in Unit E of the Motel 3 in Hempfield, between Irwin and Jeannette, Westmoreland County Coroner Ken Bacha said in a prepared statement.

The fire was reported at 6:28 a.m., emergency officials said, and Shane's body was discovered about three hours later. An autopsy will be performed by Dr. Cyril Wecht in Pittsburgh, Bacha said.

Cause and manner of death will be determined following the autopsy, and after a toxicology report, which may not be available for several weeks, the coroner said.

The state police fire marshal from Troop A, Greensburg, is investigating the fire.

Route 30 was closed between Wendel Road and the Sheetz convenience store as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control. Hempfield Twp. officials said Thursday the closure was necessary because hoses needed to be stretched across Route 30.
