A local man made a surprising discovery after purchasing a dilapidated house along Constitution Boulevard in the Greenock section of Elizabeth Twp. When he peeled off two layers of decaying siding, he discovered that the original walls were made of logs --- and that the house itself is more than 200 years old.

The Elizabeth Twp. Historical Society is now raising money to preserve the "Greenock Log House," which dates to 1790, making it one of the oldest known structures in the Mon-Yough area. On Friday, we talked to volunteer Debbie Gilbert about the log house.

The historical society is holding World War II-themed luncheons this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Betsy Shoppes in Boston, Elizabeth Twp., to raise money for the project. Reservations are $25. Call (412) 751-6695 for reservations or more information.

Gilbert also described ways that local residents can help preserve their own histories --- for instance, by interviewing their family and friends about their memories of important events.

We also talked to Joyce MacGregor of the McKeesport Trail Commission about upcoming events along the city's waterfront.
