Telephone scam artists are calling Westmoreland County residents and claiming they need to post $500 bond for missing jury duty, a county spokesperson said Monday.
The person making the phone call claims to be "Deputy Walker" from the Westmoreland County sheriff's office and asks for personal information before demanding that the victims report to the courthouse in Greensburg.
The calls are not from the county's Juror Service Center or the sheriff and are under investigation, the county spokesperson said, adding that callers should not give out any personal information to someone who calls them, unsolicited, on the phone.
Any Westmoreland County resident with questions about jury duty should call (724) 830-3817 or visit the juror service's website.
