McKeesport Little Theater presents the classic farce "Charley's Aunt," now through May 17.
Considered one of the greatest English-language comedies of the 19th century, the play has been revived in London's West End and on Broadway many times over the past 100 years. It was famously made into a film starring Jack Benny in 1941.
In 1890s Oxford, two college students, Jack and Charley, invite their girlfriends for a visit, promising that Charley's wealthy aunt from Brazil is visiting and will serve as their chaperone.
When Charley's aunt is delayed, the two undergrads are worried about losing their girlfriends, so they force one of their fellow students into impersonating her. And then Charley's real aunt unexpectedly arrives.
Joseph C. Connelly plays Charley. Originally from Irwin, he attended Bowling Green State University and returned to Pittsburgh to do theater. Michael Guantonio plays Jack. A native of Monaca, he attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and works as a computer scientist.
Showtimes are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through May 17. Tickets are $18 for adults and $7 for high school and college students, with ID. The theater is at 1614 Coursin St. For more information, call (412) 673-1100 or visit the website.
