A Braddock man is wanted by Allegheny County police in connection with a shooting Tuesday night in West Wilmerding.

Melvin McCane Jr., 36, is charged by county police with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and carrying a firearm without a license. Police said he is considered armed and dangerous.

The victim, a 45-year-old man whose name was not released by police, was in stable condition at a hospital.

North Versailles Twp. police were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of Greensburg Pike before 11 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a shooting. County detectives were asked to assist at the scene.

County police accuse McCane of going to the home to confront a former girlfriend and her current boyfriend. After an altercation, police allege that McCane shot the victim in the leg, and then fled on foot.

Police said McCane is 5-feet-7, with black hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing distinctive-looking black Nike-brand shoes with a gold "swoosh" emblem. Besides Braddock, he is known to frequent North Versailles and North Braddock, police said.

Anyone who spots McCane should call 9-1-1 immediately, police said.
