Three teen-agers were arrested after McKeesport police spotted them Monday night in a car that had been reported stolen in a carjacking in Wilkinsburg.

All three are being charged as juveniles, McKeesport police said.

McKeesport police said officers on patrol in the area of Bailie Avenue and Jenny Lind Street were searching for a Toyota Corolla which had been taken at gunpoint earlier in the day in Wilkinsburg.

Officers spotted the vehicle in the 1800 block of Soles Street in McKeesport and signaled for it to pull over. There were four young men in the car, according to a report.

The driver, identified as a 15-year-old from Rankin, jumped from the vehicle without putting it into park, and fled on foot, police said.

The unattended car then drifted into a McKeesport police car, causing damage, police said. Two passengers were apprehended without further incident, but a rear seat passenger, identified as a 16-year-old from McKeesport, attempted to exit the vehicle with a 9-mm handgun.

Police said that when the McKeesport teen-ager refused to stop, he was struck in the leg by an officer using a baton, causing the teen-ager to drop the weapon. The youth was then taken into custody, police said.

The driver was arrested by McKeesport police in Fern Alley following a brief foot chase, according to a report.

The 9-mm handgun had a 30-round magazine holding 19 rounds, with an addition round loaded in the chamber, police said. It had been reported stolen from Glassport, police said.

One of the passengers, identified as a 16-year-old from Turtle Creek, was in possession of a brick of suspected heroin, comprising approximately 50 "stamp" bags, police said.

The Turtle Creek teen-ager is a suspect in the Wilkinsburg carjacking, McKeesport police said. He was charged by McKeesport police with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to deliver. Wilkinsburg police were not immediately available for comment on Thursday.

The Rankin teen-ager was charged by McKeesport police with receiving stolen property, escape, resisting arrest, driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident involving damage.

The McKeesport teen was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, unauthorized possession of a firearm by a minor and receiving stolen property, police said.

The fourth passenger was not charged, McKeesport police said.
