There's a new twist to an old favorite --- the annual fundraiser known as the UPMC McKeesport Invitational.

For the first time in nearly 40 years, the invitational will include what Eliana Latterman, director of development, calls a "Burgh-style cash bash" at 7 p.m. July 29 at the country club. Retired McKeesport Area High School football coach George Smith will serve as master of ceremonies.

The flagship event remains the annual golf outing at Youghiogheny Country Club, Latterman says.

Friday's cash-bash event will be Pittsburgh sports-themed, so ticket buyers will also get chances to win sports memorabilia prizes, each valued at approximately $300, that represent the range of Pittsburgh professional sporting, Latterman says.

Baskets are being created by the hospital's nursing units and other departments and will be raffled, she says.

The three-day UPMC McKeesport Invitational supports the work of the hospital foundation. Other events during the invitational include a Saturday tennis tournament and a Monday golf outing, followed by a dinner.

The foundation is an independent charitable organization that works in partnership with UPMC McKeesport Hospital, Latterman says.

"All monies raised are returned to the communities through grants to UPMC McKeesport and numerous community organizations," she says.

Tickets for the cash bash cost $20 each and will include refreshments. The event is chaired by Chas Fine, Judy Haliko and Joyce Krut, Latterman says.

At 12:30 p.m. Saturday (July 30), the 26th annual McKeesport Invitational Tennis Tournament will be held at The Club at Monroeville (1 Racquet Lane).

An entry in the tournament costs $100, which also includes a meal following the game and light refreshments prior. Event chairs are Dr. Tesfamariam Andemeskel, Paul Heatherington and Dr. Mohammad Idrees.

The invitational hits its climax on Monday (Aug. 1) with the annual golf outing at the country club in Elizabeth Twp. The event will have two shotgun "scramble starts" at 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost is $250, which includes 18 holes of golf and two meals.

Skill prizes are available on every hole, along with a putting contest, raffles, and basket and live auctions, Latterman says. Chair for the event is Dr. Curtis C. Waligura.

The annual dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m.
