Part of Grant Avenue Extension in West Mifflin will be closed during evenings this week so that work can continue on the Homeville Viaduct.

The Allegheny County Department of Public Works said closing the road is necessary so that crews from Mosites Construction can replace a bearing on the bridge. The 779-foot-long bridge, built in 1955, is undergoing a $10 million reconstruction project.

Grant Avenue will be closed nightly between Lower Bull Run Road and Edgewood Avenue beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday and continuing through Saturday (July 9). All work is being done at night.

A county spokeswoman said motorists should follow the posted detour.
