Penn State Master Gardeners of Allegheny County will hold a lecture from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. this Saturday (April 25) at Trax Farms near Finleyville.

The topic of the lecture is "Green Gardens, Clean Water," a statewide initiative to educate home gardeners about how their actions in their gardens can affect water quality.

It will include a presentation on how to install a rain barrel, how to install a rain garden, and what plants fit within a rain garden.

Other topics of discussion will include new and underused vegetables, how to grow spices and herbs used in Indian cuisine, and how to get three seasons of color in your garden using perennials.

Trax Farms is just off state Route 88 at 528 Trax Road, Union Twp., Washington County.

Admission is $14 per person, and walk-ins are accepted. Checks can be made payable to the Penn State Extension. For more information, call Philip Bauerle at (412) 473-2540 or email pjb37@psu.edu.
