You probably have something in your kitchen right now that's made in the Mon Valley, and you don't even realize it.

It's estimated that three out of four American households have one or more pieces of Pyrex-brand glassware --- the tough, clear baking dishes, casserole pans, measuring cups and other utensils that have been staples in many kitchens since 1915.

The company that makes Pyrex, World Kitchen, is marking its 100th anniversary this Saturday (May 16) in Charleroi with a pancake breakfast and a celebration of the workers who manufacture Pyrex, plus a visit by the "world's largest Pyrex measuring cup." Events begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m.

Opened in 1899 and modernized many times over the years, the Charleroi factory is one of the last remaining outposts of what was once a thriving glass industry in Western Pennsylvania. The plant has passed through several owners and is perhaps best known for its association with Corning, former owner of the Pyrex brand.

This week on "Two Rivers, 30 Minutes," we talked to three workers at World Kitchen's Charleroi plant --- Reuben Brown, Tom Seal and Greg Spada --- who together have more than 90 years of experience. Members of United Steelworkers Local 53G, they talked about the glassmaking process, the need for American manufacturing and why they take pride in each piece of Pyrex glassware sold around the world.
